18 Haircuts Most Women Regret Getting (And Better Options)

Written By Dave Spencer

We’ve all chosen haircuts that we’ve instantly regretted. We usually realize this while we’re still sitting in the salon chair and then have to awkwardly thank the stylist after. Luckily, you can now avoid doing just that! Here are 18 haircuts most women regret getting (and better options).

Extreme Angled Bobs

This style is starting to become outdated. It’s also difficult to grow out and not easy to maintain. A choppy bob could be a fresher, easier-to-manage style. For example, Right Hairstyles writes, “Choppy hairstyles can add texture and interest to shorter lengths, making your hairstyle more playful and voluminous.”

The Mullet

The mullet has recently had a comeback, becoming a style that’s supposed to add edge to your look. Unfortunately, it can also do the opposite, as it’s not a style for everyone. A better option can be the wolf cut. It still has an edgy feel and is shorter in the front, but it produces a softer look.

Bowl Cut

The bowl cut has always been considered a tough cut to pull off. It can be very unflattering and make the face appear rounder. A better option to consider is a pixie cut, as it’s still a short style, but it has more depth thanks to all its choppy layers.

Sometimes, a woman may ask their hair stylist to cut their pixie cut even shorter than it already is, and then they instantly regret it. Luckily, a pixie cut will grow back relatively quickly, but you can still choose other options instead, such as growing it out into a bob.

Mohawk

A mohawk is an extreme cut that creates a very bold style. This means it isn’t something that will suit everyone. Instead, you may want to think about opting for a fauxhawk, which is more of a fun take on a mohawk. It isn’t as intense, making it a more wearable style.

Asymmetrical Bob

An Asymmetrical bob can be a challenge to maintain and it also creates issues when it comes to styling. It isn’t a versatile style, and this can cause you to regret having it cut. Instead, we recommend a blunt bob. It’s a sleek style that will make hair appear thicker, along with being easier to manage.

Baby Bangs

Baby bangs may seem like an edgy option in the moment, but once you’ve had them for a couple of days, you realize how difficult they are to style and manage. They can even be too bold for certain face shapes. Instead, you should think about growing them into curtain bangs to help frame the face.

High-Maintenance Colors

Choosing unnatural and bold colors seems like a great idea at the moment. It’ll create a unique look that really reflects your personality, but the style can be very hard to maintain and may require many color top-ups at the salon. A better option may be balayage or highlights.

Tight Perms

A tight perm can give you the curls you never had but always wished for. You may start off loving your perm, but after a while, you’ll notice how damaging it can be. A perm can also create unwanted frizz in your hair. A less damaging option is to choose heatless curls with a natural or wavy style.

Blunt Cut on Fine Hair

If you have fine hair, then a blunt cut is only going to make your hair appear finer. It won’t give you the movement and depth that fine hair needs. A better option is to choose layers. Long layers can add interest and also help frame your face.

Shaved Designs

A shaved design can look edgy, but it can also be a lot to maintain. It’s a unique look but it requires regular shaves so that it doesn’t grow out. An undercut is a far better option; you’ll still have a shaved design, but it’s easier to maintain.

Long, Heavy Bangs

Long and heavy bags can be overwhelming for the face, especially if your face is delicate or small. They also require daily maintenance to make sure they stay in place which can involve a lot of styling and hair products. Wispy or side-swept bangs keep the length but are easier to manage.

Straight-Across Fringe

This style can be very harsh on the face. It’s also a cut that may be hard to style with different looks. They can be a pain to grow out of, as you may not know what to do with them. Instead of this you could try layered bangs, as they seamlessly blend into the rest of your hair.

Rat-Tail

A rat-tail can also seem like an edgy style to choose in the moment, but after you’ve had it cut, you may start to realize it’s hard to incorporate into everyday looks. Instead of choosing such a hard-to-manage style, think about opting for a sleek and layered cut.

Overly Layered Cuts

Too many layers can create a style that’s hard to manage and is hard to put up on lazy days. You also have limited options when it comes to styling. If you still want a layered cut, then a better option is blended layers, as they’ll still add movement, but they won’t be as sharp.

Long Hair Without Layers

This hair cut can weigh your hair down and even make it look dull and lifeless. It’s a difficult style to maintain, as many styles, such as curls, can just drop out of it. The cut can lack depth, so instead, try out layers to add some movement to your hair.

Thin, Wispy Ends

You may think that thin and wispy ends may make your hair appear more delicate, but they can actually make your hair look damaged. Thin and wispy ends can become hard to manage, and a better option is blunt ends. They’ll add thickness to your hair and make it appear healthier.

The High Ponytail Cut

There isn’t much versatility that comes with a high ponytail cut, and it means you can’t wear your hair down. To give yourself more choice when it comes to styling your hair, think about getting a layered cut, as this looks great both up and down.
