Happy People Never Complain About These 18 Things

Written By Dave Spencer

Happy people always maintain a positive mindset that we can all learn from, and a lot of this has to do with not complaining! To help you adopt such positivity, we’ve compiled the following 18 things that the happiest people never complain about.

Past mistakes

Mistakes are an opportunity to learn and grow, with every happy person making countless mistakes before they succeed. Even Oprah Winfrey, now one of the most famous talk show hosts in the world, was fired from her job as a television reporter because she was “unfit for TV,” according to Business Insider!

Things beyond their control

By letting go of the things they can’t influence, happy people can spend more energy on things they can control. Life isn’t always how we want it to be, but focusing on the things beyond our control doesn’t help us. Adopting this attitude allows happy people to be more adaptable in life situations.

Other’s success

Instead of feeling jealous or comparing themselves to friends, happy people find joy in other’s success. They can be inspired by other people’s achievements and use this to work towards their own goals. In this way, happy people don’t see others as competition but as a team that helps each other.

Being criticized

Criticism is something we all receive in life, and by taking it on the chin as constructive feedback instead of seeing it as negative, happy people can grow and learn from it. They’ll never complain about it, as it also helps them to be open-minded and understanding of other people’s perspectives.

Heavy traffic

Just like waiting in line, traffic is another time in life when we can practice patience and calm. Rather than complaining during the daily commute, happy people use this time to relax and practice mindfulness. As Time Magazine put it, ‘many of the most reliable ways to increase happiness levels are free.’

Politics and religion

Everyone holds their own political and religious beliefs, and this is precisely why happy people avoid complaining about them. They realize that people believe what they believe, and expressing their disagreement is only going to cause arguments. They let it be and keep their thoughts to themselves.

The weather

The weather is a classic example of something we cannot control, so why complain about it?! Happy people embrace all weather conditions, seeing them as part of the natural beauty of the world. For every undesirable weather condition, there’s always a silver lining, such as heavy rain allowing our beloved plants to thrive!

Noisy children

Children can certainly be somewhat annoying at times, especially when they’re loud when you’re trying to relax. However, happy people think back to when they were children, knowing that they behaved exactly the same way. Kids will be kids, so turn a blind eye to their naughty behavior!

Small inconveniences

Things often don’t go to plan, and that’s okay, so happy people will never complain about small inconveniences like missing their bus. Instead, they deal with the situation as it comes and find a solution, maintaining positivity when faced with minor setbacks.

Long waits

There’s no denying that long waits can be boring, especially when you could be doing something else. However, happy people make use of this time by reading a book, making a to-do list, or even practicing mindfulness. Life is always so busy, so treat waiting times as a rare opportunity to unwind.

Not having enough material possessions

Happy people generally find contentment in the non-material aspects of life. Instead of complaining about what they can’t afford, they show gratitude towards the things they have. After all, Harvard Business Review reminds us that having more ‘stuff’ will never equal more happiness!

Comparing themselves to others

Nothing positive is ever gained from comparing yourself to other people. Happy people avoid doing this as they realize it can lead to unhappiness and dissatisfaction; instead, they celebrate their own successes and achievements. This allows them to focus on their own journey and personal growth, not those of others.

Getting old

It’s commonly thought that aging is a negative thing, but by celebrating the wisdom and experience that come with age rather than complaining about it, people can be more content in themselves. This also allows happy people to focus on staying healthy and active, which will benefit them increasingly as they age.

Being busy

When life gets very busy, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and complain about it. However, happy people combat this by ensuring they take time for self-care during busy periods, maintaining a balance of priorities. They also understand that busy times can be fulfilling and full of meaningful activities.

Other people’s opinions

It’s always important to value your own opinion, but the happiest people understand that this doesn’t mean disregarding the opinions of others. Even if they disagree, they consider other people’s opinions an opportunity to learn another perspective while sharing their own.

Being single

Being single can feel lonely, but don’t complain about it if you wish to be happy. After all, Time Magazine points out that ‘Nearly 40% of adults in the U.S. are unpartnered’, so it’s much more common than you would think. Instead, embrace singlehood as an opportunity for independence, growth, and self-sufficiency.

Uncertainty about the future

Uncertainty about the future can make anyone anxious, but complaining about it won’t change anything. By focusing on the present moment and what can be controlled, happy people embrace uncertainty as an exciting part of life. The future is an opportunity for new growth and experiences.

Being wrong

Last but not least, once we learn to accept our mistakes, we can become happier. Happy people understand that being wrong is a natural part of learning and growth. By being open to others teaching us things, we humble ourselves and learn to value others’ knowledge. So, don’t be a know-it-all, as that will only make you unhappier!
