One of the most frustrating things that really disrupts your home life is having annoying neighbors. Do your neighbors get on your last nerve? You’ll find 17 of the most irritating things that neighbors can do in this article.

Play Loud Music

One of the things that makes most people complain about their neighbors is loud, obnoxious music. The music isn’t just loud; it’s booming and it’s constant. The loud music continues to blare for hours on end, especially at times when we’d like to rest. This drives us insane.

Leaving Dog Off Leash

According to the Animal Legal & Historical Center, the states of “Michigan and Pennsylvania have laws that address some form of control or restraint for all dogs.” Neighbors who leave their dogs off the leash on the street are very irresponsible and could receive a fine.

Shout in the Street

Another thing that disrupts our quiet, peaceful neighborhood is when the neighbors shout in the street outside the house. They’re usually arguing with someone about money or just being rowdy. We don’t understand why they can’t take their loud argument indoors, where it won’t disturb others.

Let Their Trash Pile Up

Trash collection is routine when you put your trash cans in the right place. But bad neighbors are the ones who let their trash pile up and never put their trash cans out for collection. The smell of their trash wafts into our front yard.

Neglect the Front Yard

We all take pride in the image of our front yards. We try to keep them tidy, as this reflects well on us as people. We hate it when the neighbors neglect their front yards, allowing the grass to grow tall and leaving the paint to peel.

Pests

Everyone hates it when their next-door neighbors have pests that could enter their home. Rentokil says that “whether it’s a stack of old newspapers or a few boxes lying around your home, clutter is a natural environment for most pests.” Yes, the clutter could attract pests to your home.

Litter

No one wants a neighbor who litters and defaces the whole street. Instead of throwing all of their trash away, they drop plastic bottles on the floor and stamp cigarette butts into the sidewalk. It doesn’t occur to them that they should put their litter in the trash.

Use Bold Colors

Is there a uniform color scheme on your street? The houses are all painted pretty much the same colors, except for the one house next door to you. Your next-door neighbors have chosen the most hideous, bright colors to paint their house, and their property is an eyesore.

Look Through Windows

We all value our privacy. But what about that one neighbor who’s always trying to peep through our windows? This neighbor is a real busybody and can’t keep out of other people’s business. They love to know what you have at home and see what you’re doing.

Ignore Boundaries

Figures from Today’s Homeowner show that “the national yard size sits around 23,301 square feet, or just over half an acre.” That’s plenty of space. We hate it so much when our neighbors don’t respect their boundaries and leave their things on our side of the yard.

Park Badly

Do you have limited parking spaces outside your home? Then you likely hate it when your neighbors park badly and take up too much space. This prevents others from being able to park on the street, and they have to leave their cars elsewhere. Selfish parking irritates you.

Have Broken-Down Vehicles

There’s nothing that will make the street look uglier than having a rusty, broken-down old car sit permanently in a front yard or on the side of the road. The vehicle has been there for years, and no one ever does anything with it. It’s an eyesore.

Have Dangerous Dogs

According to Edgar Synder & Associates, “Over 4.5 million people are bitten by dogs every year in the U.S., with over 800,000 instances where medical attention is received and the most common victims being children.” We hate it when our neighbors don’t train their dogs.

Don’t Clean the House

One of the most terrible things next-door neighbors do is fail to clean the house. Every time they open the door, you get a waft of the house. And when they leave the window open, you have to be sure you close yours to avoid downdraft.

Let Their Kids Scream

If you live in a semi-detached house, you might be able to hear a lot of what goes on next door. You can ignore the ruckus in the daytime but when the kids next door are allowed to scream throughout the night, the noise becomes unbearable.

Leave the Dog Barking

Dogs bark; it’s just something they do. But if your next-door neighbor lets their dog bark continuously all day and night, this becomes really annoying. You can’t get any real peace and quiet at home because you’re always being disturbed by the neighbor’s persistent barking dog.

Let Their Dog Fowl

Another irritating offense is letting a dog fowl and failing to clean up after it. A neighbor who lets their dog out and doesn’t clean up after it is very irresponsible. In many states, this offense can incur a fine if it’s caught by the police.
