It’s often too late for anyone to start saving for their retirement at 60. Fidelity says that you should start saving at 25 and “Aim to save at least 15% of your pre-tax income each year, which includes any employer match.”

Wear What They Like

Many current fashion trends are designed for young people, like those in their teens and twenties. Older people wearing young styles might not be widely accepted. Some think these clothes should be reserved for the advertiser’s target audience.

Many people believe that certain hairstyles are also just for young people. When older people dye their hair bright colors or use outlandish hairstyles, they think it doesn’t look right. So, there’s a common view that those 60 and older should avoid trendy hair looks.

Financial stability is often associated with those over 60, so it’s surprising for people to hear of a retired older person who is up to their eyeballs in debt. Although people think that debt is just for younger or middle-aged people, this is far from true.

Break Up

Many people associate breakups with younger people and expect their grandparents and people of older generations to stay together forever, come what may. But older people are just as likely, if not more likely to break up with their partners after 60 than they are before 60.

The general belief is that our 60s is not the right stage of life to be moving into a bigger house. Daily Mail Online states that 64 is the perfect age for us to downsize. Getting a bigger house in our 60s can be very stressful.

Quitting a job suddenly is something you’d expect from someone young, not people in their 60s. Since retirement is close, those in their 60s are expected to stick with their current jobs, even if they’re not happy.

Society expects people over 60 to go to work and get the job done without starting any drama. They believe that people over 60 go to work just to wait for their retirement. They’re only there to do their work, keep themselves to themselves, and then go home.

Rush Around

Rushing around is typical for young people who are poorly organized and young parents with too many responsibilities. But no one expects people over 60 to be rushing around. They’re supposed to be taking life down a gear now they’ve reached 60 years of age.

Fit In

People over 60 aren’t expected to fit into today’s society. So, when they talk differently, dress differently, and act in a way that’s different from everyone else, no one bats an eyelid. By this age, most people are more self-confident and stop trying to fit in.

Everyone would agree that over 60s can’t live without health insurance. According to WebMD “ Your mid-60s and beyond are a prime time for a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure.” Health insurance is essential for anyone over 60 and there’s no way of getting around it.

Work Too Hard
